1. Equipment introduction

Features of the equipment: Teaching bench for learning thin films (SM107), allowing to study and analyze stress and deformation states of pressurized thin cylindrical envelopes.

The bench should be able to experimentally verify the theory related to the thin envelope by measuring the deformation of the cylinder wall at different points and following different directions.

The bench must allow for the following teaching work:

Longitudinal, circumferential, radial and biaxial stresses

Behavior of cylinders under open and closed end conditions

Use of strain gauges

Relationship between stress and strain in a cylinder and the value of the modulus E

Indirect stress and strain

Poisson’s ratio value in a cylinder

Calculation of shear stress anywhere in a cylinder using Mohr’s circle

Determination of principal strains using the “principle of superposition”

Effect of biaxial stress system

Sources of error in experiments
